Clinical Supervision

Continuing supervision is a professional requirement safeguarding both practitioner and client, it is also essential for good practice.

Choosing your supervisor is an important task that requires research, reflection and a robust awareness of your own professional needs to ensure the safety of your clients and the integrity of your practice.

I provide supervision from a Humanistic Integrative perspective, covering a number of theoretical aspects such as Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Person Centred Therapy, Transference and Countertransference and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

This eclectic approach will enable you, as the supervisee, to understand a variety of theoretical views.

I include a strong emphasis in understanding the importance of transferential and counter-transferential issues within the triad of the supervisory process – the supervisor, the supervisee and the client.

I work with trainees, experienced Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

FAQ

What is Supervision

According to the Ethical Framework Glossary (BACP 2018b) supervision is:

A specialised form of professional mentoring provided for practitioners responsible for undertaking challenging work with people. Supervision is provided to ensure standards; enhance quality, stimulate creativity, and support the sustainability and resilience of the work being undertaken.

How often Should I have supervision

The BACP recommends a minimum of 1.5 hours per calendar month regardless of number of contracted clients. This is mandatory for accredited members if you’re currently practising with contracted clients.
If you’re managing a full case load, you may need to increase these hours as you see necessary.

You can take a break from supervision if you’re not seeing any clients in a calendar month. This should be documented for accreditation purposes.

Supervision for Trainees

Trainees are required to complete a minimum of 1.5 hours per calendar month. Ratio of 8 hours counselling to 1 hour supervision, with supervision every two weeks.

Can be a mix of one to one or group. A facilitator is needed for group supervision. Peer supervision is not acceptable for students.

As a student you must check your own course criteria and refer to your course tutors or training organisation for their specific requirements.

Superivsion Contract

I have a standard contract, but offer the flexibility to negotiate around certain terms such as days/times of supervision.

Working Online

I have OCST qualifications for working online.
